Imagine survivors coming together Way Out West in a luxurious B&B, dressed and draped in silky lacy things, treated to hair/makeup/nails/wardrobe and surrounded by encouragement and laughter. Where private boudoir photo sessions foster strength and confidence to reveal a woman's beauty, creating striking keepsake images to give her memories and validation forever, all at no cost to them.
We did that, a 2012 all-donated daylong pilot project in Helena, Montana. Warmly received by the survivors, local media and contributing businesses alike, Montana's event proved that this unique approach to healing can work well as post-operative therapeutic care for breast cancer survivors. Each survivor received their images as photo prints.
Borne of Jana M. Suchy's Way Out West Creative boudoir photography, in 2010 one of her first clients saw her photos and exclaimed, “Oh my god I’m beautiful! I never knew I was beautiful!” And Jana just knew who needed to feel that way too: Breast-Cancer Survivors.
Arizona Pink-Ribbon Boudoir 2022
Ten years later we did it again!
This time partnered with a nonprofit to fundraise for a retreat and public photo exhibit, Nadia Larsen and her organization Nadia Strong stepped up. With the generosity of many donors—most members of the Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce—we succeeded in reaching our goals because of our top-tier naming sponsor Tucson Plastic Surgery. We held the photo retreat in a spectacular private home in the Tucson desert July 2022, followed by a public photo exhibit in December showcasing 50 large-format canvas photographs—and the community turned out, even the Town of Oro Valley mayor! Each survivor received her own custom-designed hardcover photobook. (exhibit event photos below by Donna Lannon, Genuine Photography)

Arizona's 2nd Annual Pink-Ribbon Boudoir Event—Rebranded as BEYOND BEAUTIFUL 2023!
Historic luxury resort Hacienda del Sol
Now an annual event exclusively sponsored by Tucson Plastic Surgery's Drs. Silvia Kurtovic and Raman Mahabir from their new Tucson Plastic Surgery Foundation, the July 2023 photo retreat in Tucson, Ariz., became a full weekend retreat for 5 survivors, most selected from the doctors' patients. Instead of a public photo exhibit—as fun and successful as it was in 2022—the doctors put resources toward the weekend retreat at Hacienda del Sol, a beautiful location in a gorgeous desert setting.

Celebrating a survivor's beauty at any age, any stage—
to come back to beauty, back to sexy, back to fun and feeling pretty.
I was completely caught off-guard with what I saw in the images—I see someone who is fierce and stunning, different from the way I see myself.
I'm so honored that you photographed me! So amazed that you showed me MY beauty!
When diagnosed I thought I'm never going to feel pretty again. Thank you for renewing beauty and a sense of self to all of us. (Kaiona pictured below)
"I welcome the opportunity to feel sexy, strong and beautiful while showing our community what survivorship looks like. The best part was start to finish!"
“I love my book. I think plastic surgeons should display the photos for other patients to see. If I was newly diagnosed it would make me feel inspired to see the books.”
